'Lou C' on Yelp puts it well: As neighborly as a coffee house can get. A local institution as it was the first location of the small Seattle chain. You're bound to meet someone from the neighborhood every time, and can catch upon the local gossip by hanging outside in one of the Adirondack chairs. Dog lovers rule the sidewalk, so beware if you're at all canine-phobic. Always the most talented baristas around and they manage to keep them long enough. Wonder why ? QC is their game with in-house roasting and baking, yeah the berry pie is a meal. Stick with the biscotti and butterhorns if you haven't included a few miles in your AM routine. They pay attention to your custom orders here and the foam is pure velvet.

The Spotted Cow makes their own ice cream (!) and always has an array of both unique and time-tested flavors. They also have different unique drinks that combine both ice cream (any kind you want!) and coffee - absolutely delicious. Also not cheap, but worth the trip and the money every so often as a treat. They are very family-friendly and have an entire area with fun, painted walls and toys and trinkets for kids. There is a good amount of space to sit, including tables outside. They have plenty of books and magazines to look at, games to play, and a fake fire for that lovely cozy warm homey feel. Awww.
